Update: Book?
I'm considering turning this newsletter into pieces of a book about my experience as a content marketer for tech startups.
I enjoy sharing my experience and lessons learned as a content marketer in an unfiltered way. But I want to follow the advice I give to my clients and do it consistently, in a way that’s supported by a big idea or mission.
I’m toying around with the idea of making this newsletter a buildup to a book about my life leading up to content marketing and the lessons I learned while practicing content marketing for dozens of tech startups. Each newsletter would be the section of a chapter within that book.
I’ve worked at nine tech startups in a full-time capacity and a handful of others as a freelancer over the past 10 years. Before I saw this as some issue with focus and patience, but now I see it as a blessing. Only with this experience could I have learned what works and what doesn’t work for tech startups when it comes to content marketing.
It might also be a good time to write a book since I’m a free agent. As an employee, it’s trickier because you represent the company you work for in a public way. And, like I said, I want to share my experiences unfiltered. Not in a way that bashes any company I’ve worked for but in a way that includes life experiences that can make people uncomfortable in a professional setting.
I’ve never really separated life from work. Not for better or worse, but for the better. I love what I do and see us as all a big family. If I can contribute to exploring content marketing with this family in a fun way, that would be nice.
I’ll share an outline with you soon about the chapters and sections in the book. It might take some time for me to do this as I’m currently working with some great tech startups in a contract capacity. In any case, I’ll share updates on this outline every week in case you want to leave a comment about sections and chapters you’d like to learn more about.
Thanks so much for tuning in. In the meantime, as Robert from the This Old Marketing podcast says: It’s your story to tell, tell it well.
I think a book about your experiences would be great!!! I look forward to reading each chapter!
